Headaches & Migraines
Osteopathy for Headaches and Migraines
Headaches and migraines are often linked to tension and dysfunction in the neck, known as cervicogenic headaches. These can sometimes stem from misalignment or reduced mobility in the cervical spine — the vertebrae in your neck. Such issues might go unnoticed for years but can be triggered by things like poor posture, a restless night’s sleep, a whiplash injury, or accumulated stress and tension.
When muscles around the neck become tight, they can affect the nerves and blood vessels at the base of the skull, reducing blood flow to the head and causing scalp tension — a common source of headaches.
Osteopaths regularly treat headaches by gently improving alignment, reducing muscular tension, and restoring natural movement through the neck and upper back. They can also help determine whether your symptoms are likely to be musculoskeletal in origin.
